Sara Mitra
Extraordinary Jazz Vocalist” The Arts Show, BBC Radio
Catch her while you can…you won’t regret it” bbc.co.uk

Singing her own original material and classic jazz standards, Sara Mitra has received acclaim from audiences and musicians alike for her vocal agility, compelling stage presence and passionate delivery of each song she interprets.

Born in Essex to Indian and Irish parents, she sang in choirs from an early age and went on to read Music at the University of Cambridge. From classical Choral Scholar to jazz singer is not the great leap that many might imagine – both roles require a love of singing, a thrill at working with other musicians and a desire to explore the boundaries of the human voice. Citing vocal legends Sheila Jordan, Anita O'Day, and Ella Fitzgerald as three of her top inspirations, Sara demonstrates a fresh and rhythmically vibrant approach to improvisation with both text and melody.

Based in London, she regularly performs in the capital, from Soho to the Southbank. She has headlined at jazz venues across Europe, both as a guest soloist and touring with her own groups. Previous events include Edinburgh and Cambridge Fringe performances, primetime live performance and interview on Estonia’s ETV, a string of Parisian club dates with her quartet, and playing support for renowned artists such as Ruby Turner, Valery Ponomarev, JTQ, Iain Mackenzie.
